BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post will host a Preventative Cardiology and Heart Wellness Clinic on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6 to 9 P.M.  All Military Veterans and First Responders an encouraged to attend. It will take place at the Brookfield Senior Center located at 100 Pocono Road.

The clinic will primarily address the issue of potential heart related conditions. It has been shown that combat exposure for veterans that have been deployed as well as chronic stress can greatly increase the risk for heart disease at younger ages in combat veterans and first responders

Shiela Mattei  from the Cardiology Department of The West Haven VA Hospital will be on hand to conduct personalized risk assessments and recommended treatment plans.

In addition, Clinical personnel from Dental Associates of Connecticut will council attendees on the relationship between oral care and heart health

Donna Monteleone, Post Surgeon of the Brookfield VFW and organizer of the event, stressed, "This clinic provides a unique opportunity for determining  the potential of cardiac risk factors long before complications arise.”

Also on hand during the clinic will be a Connecticut Disabled Veterans Association advisor and a Danbury Veterans Center representative, to provide guidance for Veterans not currently enrolled in the VA Program. They will also answer questions regarding VA Benefits.

It is suggested attendees bring along their service separation paper DD Form 214 if they have it.
